Whaddaya'll Think of This Idea?

Hey guys... Freddie and I were chatting this morning about exposure for moped riding in the city and I suggested that it might be a great idea for all of us RCMP members to show up on our mopeds one morning on City TV's Breakfast Television program. Whaddaya think about that? It would be great media exposure both for "the moped as transportation" concept as well as the Posse itself, as BT is the most watched morning program in the GTA. I have no idea how one goes about booking a spot on BT, and I am the most junior member of the RCMP I don't think it's my place to do so if it something that everyone agrees on. Thoughts?

But Lindsay, put aside your dislike of the show and realize how much city-wide exposure we would get... Print media is excellent, but so is visual too. C'mon... I think both NOW and BT would be stupendous!

i think that as mopeds are a form of alternative transportation, we should utilize forms of alternative media.

That's pretty rigid, Lindsay. Do you want publicity or do you want to remain esoteric? As for NOW being alternative, girl, that's as mainstream as alternative gets.
As you guys may know, I place stories for a living. It's not that difficult, but we have a small riding/visual window left this year because of the weather. Simply a mater of developing the proper trajectory for the story angle.

Lindsay, I understand what you're saying. My reservation about seeking media publicity is that they will make it contingent upon us to make things interesting for them, and that's where some of our people might feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, if we sit tight and wait for the media to come to us, we have much more control of the outcome, since they will come with a plan that we can either yay or nay. Our first rule should be: does this do something for the club? What do you guys think?

I think it would great for us guys (of all sexes, ages, and backgrounds) to show up on our peds(of all different vintages and types) and let the general public see that riding a moped is for everybody; not just one segment of the population. People also need to see that it is getting popular to ride them again, and that it didn't "die out" in the '70's. Besides it would be a shameless plug for the club and (perhaps) Freddie's business!

Not to mention how much better for the environment it would be it more people commuted on a moped... Imagine how few "smog alert" days we would have? Just a thought...

why does our club need a shameless plug? what's wrong with it the way it is now? why do we need to seek media publicity?

I guess I'm just trying to plug moped riding in general and I thought that the RCMP is just a really amazing entity that portrays that. I'm really sorry if I'm making you mad or something. That's not my aim, I just am so happy to have met all youse guys and I guess that's what is making me think like that... Is that bad? :( Really, I'm not doing it for fame or anything, I'm just so thrilled to ride my ped, to ride it with all of you, and I wish more people would ride a ped.

You guys can sort it out. I've seen guest spots on Breakfast TV where people have gone way out of their way to be there and they get 2 minutes exposure. I'm not the TV type.

yeah, i think it's well intentioned (obviously!) but i'm really not into it.

and kytten, i don't think you're being a shit disturber, anything's worth a try. but it isn't my thing.

Well, at the very least I don't want to see anybody arguing over it. Carolyn, I don't think it was a bad thing for you to make the suggestion, so don't get down on yourself for that.

That's why suggestions are made folks, so they can be discussed and either embraced or dropped, but that doen't mean they were bad ideas in the first place.

Leaving aside the question of methods or exposure, I don't think more members is something to be avoided. The more the merrier, as they say.

no, i agree. i also don't think that more members is something to be avoided. i think it would be great if we had more. i'm just saying that i don't think bt is the way i want to do it. but we can all talk about it when we see each other on sunday.

You know, I think going to City TV BT is OK. I think it's a good idea. It's funny Lindsay and Bruce love mopeds so much, they will chase down mopedeers just to invite them to the RCMP. Now that a very articulate miss Moped Kitten suggests an idea that would significantly increase public awareness to our beloved mopeds, I hear Lindsay compare or name as an option Now Magazine, and Bruce says he is not much of a TV person. Come on people, City TV, CTV, Global, Rogers, Sun TV, Telelatino, Omni 1,2. Let's do them all.
Let's face it it is in humanity's best interest and our own, that people opt for radically economical transportation. So I'm 100% behind you Carolin Zita.

Muchas Gracias Freddie for your support... However, it seems that my impromptu survey finds that folks don't want to go on the telly and that's okay; that's what dialogue is all about. I thought I'd suggest it and I did. Thanks all for your good-spirited responses! :)
